1.
Why should I hire a dog walker?
• You may have the best intentions when you first get your
pooch to walk, run, hike, and take him/her anywhere. But the fact
is, you’re a busy person and the demands on your lifestyle,
whether it be work, family or travel, don’t always allow for
the quality time you’d like to spend with your dog. Why should
you feel guilty? Why should he/she feel neglected?
• Many people wonder what the benefits are of hiring a dog
walker versus maybe a college student or part-timer wanting to make
some extra cash. Using a professional dog walker means your dog
receives the care of someone who is experienced, educated, insured,
and committed.
• We offer additional support for dog parents such as basic
obedience and clicker training.
2 . Why should I choose Pet Sitting?
• Choosing to have your pet stay at home and have us come
to them allows them to stay in the comfort of their own home, minimizing
stress from being in a unfamiliar environment.
• We will follow food and exercise instructions you give us
to minimize disruption in routine.
• By not bringing your pet to a kennel, you avoid the risk
of injury or illness from exposure to other animals.
• Your pet won’t feel abandoned like they might being
dropped off at a kennel.
• You won’t have to coordinate opening hours/pick up
times with a kennel or pay for such services because your pet will
already be home.
• You won’t have to impose on your friends or relatives
for pet care.
• We offer several additional home care services that eliminate
the need for extra coordinating, and we deter burglars by our presence
at your home.
• Your pet won’t be in competition with other pets for
affection. While we’re in your home all our care and devotion
is focused on his or hers truly.
3. How does this work? What are the steps?
• After your initial contact with us, we will set up a time
to visit you and your pet(s) in your home. There is no charge
for this first meeting as long as it's within 30 min.
• We will gather information from you such as desired walking
routine for dogs, feeding instructions, any specific rules you have
for your pet(s), his or her traits, quirks and habits, any health/medical
information, and general pet and home care preferences.
• You will fill out a Pet Profile and a Service Details Order on your computer and email to us prior to our meeting. These will be brought by us to the meeting and added to anything that we think helpful upon getting the visual tour and chatting more. These forms include your service dates,
specifications for the care we will provide as well as contact
information pet info. You will read through a Home and Pet Care Contract emailed to you and be prepared to sign a copy at our meeting.
• We will obtain two sets of keys to your home and a mail key or any other keys you may like us to have as well. We require two sets for safety back up purposes (for example, in case a key is lost or if a key breaks in lock while you're away).
4. How
big are the dog walking groups?
• SF Parks & Recreation issued a safety statement
directed toward dog
walkers recommending a maximum of 6 dogs per dog walker. Beyond
taking this into consideration as much as possible, we may do smaller
or larger groups judging by the dogs' sizes, breeds and temperaments and where we go.
5. Where do you go for group walks?
• Depending on proximity of your house to parks and where
other clients are
located, we will choose a park best suited proximity-wise as well
as
best-suited for dogs. Parks we go to may include Fort Funston, The Presidio, Buena
Vista Park, Bernal Hill, Douglass Park, McLaren Park, Mountain Lake
Park and Crissy Field. We have a detailed map of parks throughout
San Francisco including leash and off-leash rules for each.
6. What time of day are group walks offered?
• We have several groups that go out per day whereby walks
occur between the hours of 11:30am and 2:30pm. Generally speaking,
a walker has two groups a day.
Walk #1: 10:30am - 1:30pm
Walk #2: 1:30pm - 4:00pm
7. Where do you go for solo walks?
• Usually walks will take place in your neighborhood.
If it's hard to find parking in your neighborhood or if
there isn't a park or grassy area walking distance from your house,
we may drive somewhere more suitable.
8. What is “clicker training?”
• A clicker is a small metal instrument that makes a quick
“click” noise. It is used in dog training by clicking
when the dog does something well. Dogs have a short-term memory
and because the click noise is instantaneous after their good deed,
it helps them to easily recognize that they have done something
good so they are likely to repeat this behavior. It is generally
followed up by a treat.
9. What does it mean to be “insured?”
• This includes the best and broadest care, custody, and control
coverage for the pets and property in our care whether at your home
or in transit. Should any unfortunate incident occur such as bodily
injury, personal injury or property damage while we are providing
our service for you, we are fully covered by insurance which means
all parties will be taken care of to the extent the insurance company
agrees upon within merit.
We want you to ultimately feel comfortable and confident in us.
We understand letting us into your home involves a great amount
of trust on your part. Knowing you will receive restitution should
any claimed accusation be proved, should help you feel more at ease.
10. Do you sit other animals besides cats
and dogs?
• This is open to discussion. Of course we can care
for hamsters, pet rats etc. (we've even cared for chameleons). If
we’re talking pet llamas, monkeys or pigs, lets just say we’ll
have to get a bit of background information from you before delivering
a solid “yes.”
11. How do I contact you?
• Call us or email us. Contact details are listed
on our contact page. Be prepared to supply
us with your address or cross streets, type of pets, number of pets,
and type of service you're requesting.
12.What are the required shots?
• Dogs: DHLLP and rabies.
• Cats: FVRCP, rabies, and FeLV.
Please contact your vet for information about these vaccinations.
13. Are you certified in Pet First Aid?
• Yes! We take pride in that we have all taken and passed a Pet First Aid and CPR class. We take the course again from time to time to stay sharp.
On The Go recommends pet parents take a course like this too.
